Amidst of Emergency on Education, can Yobe state achieve STEM Education? – CEO/Founder Smartdigital

For the past three years, Yobe state have been in state of emergency on education but by mere looking at the situation, I can ask that, is Yobe state making any positive development in STEM Education? The answer is quite difficult as I made a survey in state owned schools to find out how STEM education is adopted. It is very surprise that many teachers are not even aware of what is STEM Education is all about, let alone the students they are teaching.
My surprise is that, how can our education be promoted to modern level of development when 90% of the teachers are not even aware of the system of teaching that can help in achieving this level.
For this reason reason, Smartdigital under the support of their CEO/Founder Ali Ahmed Munkaila will make digital presentation to make it easier for the teachers who are online to know more about STEM Education and it’s applications in our educational activities.

What is STEM Education?
STEM education is a teaching approach that combines science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Its recent successor, STEAM, also incorporates the arts, which have the “ability to expand the limits of STEM education and application,” according to Stem Education Guide(opens in new tab). STEAM is designed to encourage discussions and problem-solving among students, developing both practical skills and appreciation for collaborations, according to the Institution for Art Integration and STEAM.
Rather than teach the five disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEAM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

According to the U.S. Department of Education(opens in new tab) “In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it’s more important than ever that our nation’s youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions.”
From the above meaning of STEM Education, I can say that, there is need for Yobe state education authorities to quickly adopts this method so that our upcoming children will be equipped with the requisite knowledge which will enable them to live successfully in their immediate environment.

Skills Derived from STEM Education
STEM-based education teaches children more than science and mathematics concepts. The focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications helps develop a variety of skill sets, including creativity and 21st-century skills.

21st-century skills include media and technology literacy, productivity, social skills, communication, flexibility and initiative. Other skills attained through STEM education include problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, decision making, leadership, entrepreneurship, acceptance of failure and more. Regardless of the future career path considered by these children, these skill sets go a long way to preparing them to be innovative.

The Importance of Innovation
The ability to think critically and challenge standards is the basis of innovation. According to the Equality of Opportunity Project (EOP), innovation is a critical component of economic growth. Innovative thinkers are the movers and shakers that have the potential to change the world. Check out the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) Inductees, some of the top innovators and inventors in U.S. history, who have made our world the place it is today.

How to Prepare Future Generations to Be Innovators
Preparing today’s children to become the innovators and inventors of tomorrow begins with STEM education programs. Summer camps, after school programs and makerspaces provide opportunities to take traditional learning and pivot it to prioritize the hands-on experience and real-world application necessary for developing an innovative mind. Learn about the STEM-based education programs inspired by NIHF Inductees to take the first step in preparing children for a lifetime of success.

How Yobe state adopt STEM Education
The process of adopting this education is simple if the state government is ever ready, the stage will be as follow:
Training the teachers
